Christmas is all about family, traditions, and festive decorations. And if you’re lucky enough to own a coach, you know that your RV is your home away from home. ‘
So, why not give it a Christmas makeover and make it even more festive? Here are some easy tips to help you create Christmas on the road.
LED Lights Are Your Friends
They’re energy-efficient and last forever, making them perfect for RVs. Use ’em inside, outside, or both — go wild! We like LED lights with a remote control that offer different settings with light patterns and colors. They come in a variety of lengths, shapes, and colors. We string between our mirrors to avoid contact with our paint but still provide a festive presence in December.
If you use lights with plastic tinsel incorporated, do not hang them outside against your coach’s paint as the sun may imprint the tinsel.
Hang Your Christmas Stockings
They’re a classic Christmas decoration and can easily be hung anywhere in your RV. Try the door handles, cabinet knobs, or your fireplace if you have one. We love hanging them from the cabinet above our fireplace for a cozy Christmas appearance. We also hang a few ornaments around the RV and festive reindeer headbands by our door to wear on our walks in the park. They are great conversation starters.
Get a Christmas Tree
If you have the space, a small Christmas tree can be a great addition to your RV. Look for artificial trees designed specifically for an RV. We found ours on clearance after Christmas last year. On travel days, I simply wrap a sheet around it and then secure it in my office chair. As I decorate, I bend hooks around the branches to secure them so they don’t fall off easily, making setup a breeze. Of course, we will try to relocate only a few times in December so we can enjoy our decorations without the hassle of packing between locations.
Deck Out the Outside
Add some Christmas cheer to your RV’s exterior with LED lights, wreaths, and other decorations. Just make sure they’re lightweight and won’t damage your RV’s paint or exterior. Also, ensure they can withstand the weather in your area. Wind and rain can certainly damper your Christmas spirit when your decorations are destroyed, or they end up three sites away in the dog park. Less is best; it only takes a little Christmas décor to put you in the Christmas spirit.
Remember the Reason
We’ve all heard the phrase, the reason for the season. Regardless of your religious convictions, there is a reason for the season in everyone’s heart. Make your reason meaningful to you and your family. You don’t need to leave your traditions behind when you are in your RV.
Our family makes a traditional Christmas cheeseball using a recipe handed down from one generation to another. Of course, we’ll be making it to share with family and friends in RV parks and places we visit. We bring a few Christmas keepsakes on the road with us and try to attend church services in person (but sometimes virtual), participate in community events, and anything else that might be in the area we are traveling to make Christmas special for us this year and future years.
You can easily turn your coach into a festive Christmas wonderland with a little creativity. So, get decorating and enjoy the holiday season in your RV!
