Jupiter, Florida — Out of This World

We picked Jupiter, Florida, for the winter last year for two reasons. First, we chase those 70° temps, and secondly, I was to meet my sister Barbara.

Getting there was quite the journey! We traveled from Texas (our home base) to North Carolina, South Carolina, and finally arrived in Florida. We stayed overnight in St. Augustine before making our way down to West Jupiter RV Resort.

I could write another post about that journey alone, including some medical issues along the way, but I’d rather dive right into why Jupiter was so special for us.

The first thing on my mind when we got settled was when was I going to meet Barb. We set up a first meeting for dinner nearby at a Mexican restaurant called Guacamole’s and I nervously entered, looking around.

She practically flew out of her chair to meet me, which set my mind right at ease. Her husband, Frank, seemed more excited for us to meet than we did!

We all got along instantly and took advantage of our time by visiting places she wanted us to see, going to the beach, and spending time at their lovely home.

The resort itself was nice, away from the city noise, and rather hidden in the West Jupiter area near marshes, refuges, and old equestrian trails and streets. It was rumored (or maybe true) that Burt Reynolds once had a house nearby. In fact, many celebs call Jupiter home, and West Palm Beach as well.

The resort has a heated pool, an activities center, and a sort of clubhouse where we saw live bands and played games or held group dinners on special occasions. We had such a good time attending group functions, hanging in the pool, and playing fun games with our friends.

There were other activities as well, such as cornhole tournaments, shuffleboard, donut and coffee get-togethers on Saturday mornings — this is where we met new people each week. They weren’t new to the park, just new to us. There are around 55 spots for RVs and a sprinkling of park models, a laundry, a bath house with restrooms, and a doggy park. Palm trees, plumeria, and pines decorate the resort, giving it a tropical feel. Almost every resident has a dog, and by the end of our stay, we knew many of them by name. You meet so many new folks through their dogs when you’re in a place for months. The park is 55+, which means it’s nice and quiet, except, of course, when the residents are enjoying themselves.

The beaches are about 12 miles away, which isn’t too far. Jupiter Beach, Juno Beach, Hobe Sound, and others. The town of Jupiter is right next to West Palm Beach, and one seems to almost blend into the other. The area boasts everything from shopping centers, including Walmart, Publix, and Sam’s, to many wonderful restaurants to enjoy. One of my favorites was Lindburgers, which is decorated in an aviation theme. The food was divine, and the drinks weren’t bad either. Some of our other favorites offered outdoor dining, including Blue Pointe Bar and Grill and E.R. Bradley’s Saloon. Just a whole different ambience.

We saw this entertainer at Blue Pointe, a cabana-styled joint.

Our closest buddies were Rick and Carrie. They took us to see Blowing Rocks, but due to the tide being out, we didn’t get to see the water blowing up through them. Instead, we got to explore them in detail since the water was way out.

There will be plenty of time to do the things we missed the first time around.

When the weather really started warming in the spring, we sat and visited many an afternoon into the night poolside at “our” table. I was so grateful to make such good friends who were all happy to hear we’ll be coming back.

Until then, we are enjoying time in Echo Basin RV Resort in southwestern Colorado, near Mancos.

I’m Kim and I’m traveling with my hubby Dave and our two Shorkies-Whiskey & Brandy. I love writing about my passions, my faith, my family, and now our new lifestyle as newbie full-time RVers. I like photography, so I’m documenting our journey with places, wildlife, nature, and activities along the way. Discovering new places and making friends along the way! Join us on our journey.
